Barrett Station was recorded in a studio we built in the McHugh-Daily building in Pacific, Mo. during 2001-2003. For the first time we had isolation rooms, fairly nice mics and mixing board, and quality instruments.

The sound was still lacking, however, mostly due to my shortcomings as a producer/engineer, but also partly due to some strange acoustics going on in the control room which adversely affected our mixes.

The great thing about those sessions is the fact that they were all recorded and archived digitally, so I’ve been able to gradually go back over them and create new mixes in my current studio, which, combined with my +3 ears of maturity are producing some surprisingly good results.

Of course this makes the guys really happy, because we all knew the performances had been outstanding, so it was really disappointing to hear sub-par mixes (fortunately most of the lame mixes have been rounded up and destroyed like the screechy, bass-ridden over modulated vermin they were, and good riddance).
