The art of soldering

Sunday, December 28th, 2008

As a friend pointed out to me recently, most people are rotten at soldering (you know who are are, gloppy blobbers). I am included among the lame solderers, and decided to say “bullshit – this is a skill I can acquire”, so my first stop, as usual, was wikipedia. Their article, while informative, was not as helpful as the first external link they pointed to:

Very good stuff and ad-free, which is surprising. BTW, wikipedia is having another fundraiser and it’s a good cause so if you can, go donate blah blah etc. Oh and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year – I have a feeling it’s going to be a very good year :rotate:

Send the crew of the I.S.S. a postcard for Christmas!

Saturday, December 13th, 2008

We sent the I.S.S. crew a greeting card, and you can, too – just go here: http://www.nasa.gov/externalflash/postcard/
Here’s the one we sent (the back of it anyway – there are 4 fronts you can choose from, we picked the floating spaceman):
The back of the postcard we sent the crew of the I.S.S.

When you click the [SEND] button you get this message, which is cool – it’s like it’s actually uploading the card to the space station heh:
Uploading directly to the I.S.S. computers

Muggy said we forgot Hoppy (our dog) so we sent them one from her, too:
Arrrffff!! Arrrrfffff!!

Ha, my lame Ascii art reminds me of K-9 :rotate:

Electric Man II

Thursday, December 11th, 2008

This post has been deleted. I sometimes impulsively post things before they should be released, and because I am something of a perfectionist I go back later and go, “ahhh, I don’t know about that, or this thing bothers me” etc. etc.

So while it is assured that there will be an Electric Man II, it is too soon to be posting details, and dialog that in retrospect seemed somewhat stilted. All I can say in my defense is I was caught up in the excitement of the moment, and wanted to share. (However, to the RSS subscribers who got this sneak peak, well all I can say is “bonus dude!” (or dudette. or whatever).

So there you have it.
